How to Decorate Your Guest Bedroom

How to decorate your guest bedroom

Nothing says “welcome” like an inviting guest bedroom. If you plan to have guests stay in your home during the holidays or a family gathering, it’s essential to make sure your guest bedroom is prepped and ready for visitors. Creating a comfortable place for guests will help them to feel welcome and relaxed, while making hosting easier on you.

Treat your guests to a great night’s sleep with these tips for decorating your guest oasis.

Design a Hotel Away from Home

According to designer Jeff Andrews, your guest bedroom “should be on par with any luxury hotel, with great bedding, fluffy towels, a white robe, bathroom amenities, a good television, and even wireless internet."

Create an oasis for your guests with plush pillows, soft, cotton sheets, and a comfortable but supportive mattress. Instead of harsh overhead lighting, try installing bedside sconces that create soft, soothing light and allow for bedtime reading. An alarm clock is also an essential piece to any nightstand.

Providing your guests with all the proper necessities is key to ensuring a comfortable stay. Making sure the room is stocked with everything they may need, like fresh towels and sheets, a few extra blankets, and essential toiletries, will keep your guests happy and will save you from running around the house trying to gather everything while your guests wait.

Style the Guest Room with Fashionable Details

While comfort and convenience are the most important aspects to a good guest bedroom, adding stylish décor can take a guest room from good to great. “Color is where emotion and energy live so it’s the first and best way to create exactly the ambiance you wish to establish for guests," says designer Kristi Nelson.

A great way to create a warm, inviting atmosphere is by using a neutral color palette with pops of bright colors around the room.

Simple Touches Go a Long Way

Here are a few easy ways to add a thoughtful touch:

  1. Adding a little bouquet of flowers on the nightstand is a wonderful way to let your guests know you’re excited to have them. Don’t go overboard on the flowers, though, in case your guests suffer from allergies.
  2. Ditch the post-it note with the Wi-Fi information — create a simple, decorative print that contains the Wi-Fi info. Having it matted and framed adds an additional touch to the guest space.
  3. Leaving a carafe of water on the nightstand is also a convenience that most forget about. Having fresh water available eliminates the need for your guests to go searching through your kitchen for glasses and water if they wake in the middle of the night.
  4. If an outlet is not in an obvious place in the room, creating a docking station with a power strip can help save your guests the headache of trying to find one. Bonus points if you leave an extra phone charger to use.

Lastly, make sure the room is clean and tidy. Mattress Firm knows that no matter how you decorate your guest bedroom, the important thing is to keep your visitors’ comfort top of mind. Everyone appreciates a great host!
