Making a Difference in the Lives of Foster Kids: Secret Santa Toy Drive 2016

When I read “only 45 more days until Christmas!” on a Christmas countdown online I couldn’t believe it! The holidays sneak up on us every year! While some of us are starting to plan our Thanksgiving menu, others may have already started holiday shopping or at least set a goal of not waiting until Christmas Eve (again) this year.

With Christmas around the corner, parents have the highly anticipated letter to Santa and possibly a very detailed list from their children. As a child, I always went through holiday catalogs earmarking the pages of toys I wanted. I hoped that the more organized I was, the better opportunity I had for Santa to bring those items.

Help Make the Holidays For 400,000 Foster Kids Better This Year

The holidays are an exciting and memorable time for most children, but it can be an especially difficult and lonely time for the 400,000 children in foster care nationwide who have been separated from family. The worry about whether or not Santa will be able to find their new home is common.

To help ensure foster children have a gift under the tree this Christmas, Mattress Firm Foster Kids is hosting its annual Secret Santa Toy Drive through December 18th. Unwrapped toys for foster children of all ages can be dropped off at your local Mattress Firm retail location.

Every Gift Helps Provide Support for Foster Parents

When we asked foster children what is on their list this year, it was filled with toys, bikes, books, electronics, sports equipment and dolls. Gifts like these show that someone cares and can make a world of difference, especially for a child with little to no belongings. It also provides support for foster parents, many of which have several children, and are trying to make the holidays as special as possible without breaking the budget.

In addition to the Secret Santa Toy Drive, Mattress Firm Foster Kids host year-round collection drives for essentials like new clothing, shoes and school supplies. Donations are collected through the Ticket to Dream Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, and after each of the six annual donation drives, proceeds stay in the community where donated and are distributed to carefully chosen local nonprofit foster care partners. Mattress Firm Foster Kids also partners with generous donors from companies and groups who host their own drives through campaigns and events.

Thank you for helping us make the holidays special for children in your community. Let’s make sure that Santa can find their house this year!
