Summer Budget Hacks: Hosting a Summer Soiree

It's summertime and you know what that means, it's time to par-tay! The kids are out of school and with summer in full effect, it's the perfect time to throw a backyard soiree. Throwing a party can be expensive, but with some clever planning, it doesn't have to break the bank.

Mattress Firm wants to help make it easier for you to get a good night's sleep so that you can be well-rested for your summer party. It's also nice to have a comfy place to crash after a late night of partying.

1. Seating Is Everything

Being outdoors is one of the best parts of the season, but Mattress Firm knows that sweating buckets while balancing food in one hand and a drink in the other sucks. Make sure you provide your guests with plenty of seating options, so they can take a load off and enjoy that perfectly-mixed, summer cocktail.

Consider some simple things you can do to create spaces for conversations in your current yard. Spruce up your otherwise abandoned lawn chairs with brightly colored blankets and fun pillows. You can even take a page out of  Lauren's book and decorate a mattress with cool textiles to keep your guests comfy. Worried about bringing your bed outside? Use a  mattress protector from Mattress Firm to protect the bed from critters, bugs, and crumbs!

2. What's on the Menu?

What's the most important part of any evening? Food. And you must have great, not good, FOOD! If you're feeding a frenzy of folks, a potluck is one of the best ways to feed a large group on a budget. Select a fun food  theme for your partygoers and let the good times roll.

Do you love to cook? Now's the perfect time to break out the Old Bay and throw a  crawfish boil! Or, fire up the smoker and host a barbecue with your favorite brisket or chops.

If you're not a fan of the frills, keep it simple. Break out the grill and throw on some burgers and hot dogs. If you really want to impress, create a  hot dog bar, so your guests can add their own spin on this BBQ classic.

3. Decorate Until You Drop

The scariest part about having people over, is having them over. If you're nervous about exposing them to the mountains of laundry, messy bathroom and dirty dishes, use Mattress Firm's solution: decorations. Camouflage the hot mess by hanging textiles and string lights to create ambiance. To save money, try skipping the balloons and create your own homemade  paper lanterns or  tassel garland. Lanterns are a great way to create mood lighting and you can let your guests take them home as party favors.

Our tip: If you're hosting a backyard event, revive old Christmas lights and string them in the trees to create ambiance. It costs next-to-nothing and will make your guests feel right at home.

4. Fun & Games

No summer party is complete without games! You have your traditional options such as Jenga, Connect Four, Cornhole and a slew of card games to choose from. Feeling fun? Turn your party into a full-on field day. With a little spray paint, turn your back-yard into a jumbo tic-tac-toe board or a  giant yard twister.
