#EmployeeSpotlight Featuring: Cassie Silva
Cassie currently serves as a team member in our Learning and Development department in Houston, Texas and has been working at Mattress Firm since 2014. Through the years, Cassie has had the opportunity to grow from her time on the sales floor, to spending the last 3 years as a Curriculum Design Specialist at Mattress Firm BEDQuarters.
What factor(s) made you want to initially join Mattress Firm?
When I interviewed with Mattress Firm I didn’t expect for this to be my career. I showed up for the interview because I was curious and the recruiter had been so nice. What I didn’t expect was to be floored by the culture and excitement within the market. I started in San Antonio, Texas and once I interviewed and saw what an exciting opportunity it really was, I grabbed on and knew I would never let go.
What do you feel have been your biggest successes at Mattress Firm?
My biggest successes at Mattress Firm have been the collaborative programs we have launched to the enterprise to help improve our sales excellence and skillsets. It is a wonderful feeling to know that these projects that you pour your heart in direct impact and affect the sales of our teams in stores.
What advice would you give to a Mattress Firm new hire?
Be ready for new challenges and opportunities. This is the first step towards a huge family and network of people who genuinely love what they do and are rooting for you every step of the way. Few companies invest in their people the way Mattress Firm does, and they will provide you with everything you need to succeed. The opportunity is there – you just have to take it.
What do you enjoy most about working for Mattress Firm?
Mattress Firm is full of people who are great at what they do, and have a passion for helping others. The company goes far beyond selling beds. Mattress Firm promotes a culture of giving back to every community they are in and even offers paid volunteer days to make sure that everyone has a chance to participate.
One of the things I am most grateful for is the opportunity to translate my passion for teaching into a career that fits me perfectly. After my first year with the company, my District Manager encouraged me to be one of our in-store trainers to work with new hires who had just joined the company. This led me to using Mattress Firm’s tuition reimbursement program to pursue my Master’s Degree in Adult Education. In the midst of getting my degree, I accepted a position in the company’s corporate support center, at BEDQuarters, to create educational materials for the entire enterprise. This entire journey has been a huge honor, and I am thankful to be in a company that works to provide so many opportunities for their employees.
