We've all heard the old adage that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Despite knowing this, many people still skip breakfast because they're rushing to get out the door in the morning.

We know that after a good night's rest, the best thing you can do to get energy for the day ahead is to eat a full breakfast — so why not eat breakfast in bed?

During the week, eating breakfast may start to feel like just another thing on your to-do list. That's why you've got to spice things up over the weekend: rest and refresh with these easy, delicious breakfast in bed ideas.

Breakfast In Bed Recipes

Pirate's Eye Toast

Also known as egg-in-a-hole, Pirate's Eye Toast is a hearty, savory breakfast that's a cinch to make. Full of buttery goodness, this simple breakfast recipe will keep you fueled through your morning errands.

Makes 1

  • 1 slice of bread
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Biscuit cutter or small juice glass

Directions

  • Cut a hole in the center of the slice of bread with the biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-low heat and place the butter into the skillet. Swirl the pat of butter until completely melted.
  • Place the slice of bread and the circle piece bread into the skillet. Flip the toast to ensure both sides of the bread are coated in butter.
  • Let one side of the bread toast in the butter for about 30 seconds.
  • Crack the egg straight into the center of the hole.
  • Sprinkle the egg with salt and pepper.
  • Cook until the egg sets, about 30 to 45 seconds, then flip the slice of bread (don't forget about the little circle piece).
  • Cook until the yolk is set and the toast is golden brown.
  • Serve immediately.

Mini Pancake Kabobs

Everything tastes better served on a stick! These cute bite-sized pancakes kabobs are perfect for a relaxing morning breakfast or addition to a brunch buffet. If you are short on time, feel free to use ready to pour pancake mix or pre-made frozen mini cakes to speed up this best breakfast recipe.

Makes 4-5 kabobs

  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon butter, for the griddle or nonstick pan
  • Nutella, or any chocolate hazelnut spread
  • Fresh berries
  • 4-inch bamboo skewers

Directions

  • Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla and butter in a mixing small bowl.
  • In a large bowl sift together the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.
  • Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry mixture, being careful not to over mix.
  • Heat a griddle or non-stick pan on medium heat. Add in the butter.
  • Pour 1-inch circles of batter onto the griddle. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes and flip until golden brown on both sides.
  • Remove the pancakes from the griddle and let cool.
  • Spread about a teaspoon of Nutella one each of the pancakes.
  • Stack about five mini pancakes on top of each other with the Nutella side facing up.
  • Place the final pancake with a fresh berry of choice and insert the skewer through all layer of the the pancakes and berry.
  • Repeat with the rest of the skewers.

Biscuit Doughnuts

No need to leave the house to get freshly made doughnuts for the best breakfast in bed. A warm doughnut is a treat that everyone needs to experience at least once, and the good news is you can make your own fresh doughnuts in less time it takes to drive you your local pastry shop!

Makes 8

  • 1 ten count can jumbo canned biscuits
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1½ tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 diameter inch cookie cutter
  • Oil for frying
  • Deep, heavy bottom pan

Directions

  • Pour 1 inch of oil into a skillet. Heat on medium until the oil reaches 350℉ on a thermometer.
  • In a bowl, combine cinnamon and sugar.
  • Separate the biscuits and lay flat on a cutting board. Cut out a small circle from the center of each biscuit with the small cookie cutter.
  • Cook the biscuits (and holes) in batches in the hot oil for about 1 minute per side, or until golden.
  • Once cooked, remove them and place on a paper towel lined plate.
  • Let them cool slightly, then toss in cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Repeat until all doughnuts are cooked, including doughnut holes.
  • Serve warm.

Sweet or Savory Creamy Toast

Take your toast to the next level. Satisfy your sweet or savory cravings at the start of your day. This recipe is easily customizable using your favorite fruits or vegetables.

Makes 2

  • 2 slices of hearty bread
  • 2 tablespoons of *cream cheese
  • **Fresh fruit or vegetables

*For savory toasts, use vegetable or onion flavored cream cheese. For sweet toast, stick with plain or lightly sweetened cream cheese.

**Try thinly sliced cucumbers, avocado or cherry tomatoes for the savory toasts. For the sweet toast, berries or thinly sliced bananas, apples, pears and kiwi are great toppings.

Directions

  • Lightly toast bread on both sides.
  • Spread a tablespoon of cream cheese on one side of the toast.
  • Top with fresh fruit or thinly sliced vegetables.
