Support Your Sleep: How to Protect Your Mattress Firm Warranty

Jan 23_blog_640x400

At Mattress Firm, we offer value that no other retailer can provide. Our wide variety of brands and mattresses allows anyone to find the bed they want at a price they can afford.

Mattresses are a long-term investment in your health and your quality of life, so we want you to find a bed that fits your needs and continues to help you sleep better for years to come. So, one thing you need to consider is how to make sure you keep your manufacturer's warranty in good standing on your Mattress Firm mattress.

Why Does Support Matter?

There are three important reasons to consider your overall bed setup and focus on support:

  1. Proper support will give you a strong foundation to sleep on.
  2. Proper support will extend the life of your mattress.
  3. Not following manufacturers' recommendations about support can, in some cases, cause warranties to become void.

We asked Michelle Stokely, our national retail manager, for her advice on how to follow the guidelines to keep your mattress well-supported, and why mattress support is such an important element of your overall bed.

“You want to support the mattress properly, so the mattress, in turn, supports your body while you sleep," she told us. “If the mattress is not supported correctly, it can begin to sag in crucial support areas. This could cause the mattress to become uncomfortable and ultimately need to be replaced earlier than expected."

Support to Support Your Warranty

So, what steps can you take to extend your mattress' life and improve your overall sleep quality?

“Mostly, we're looking for the entire mattress to be supported," Michelle advises. “The best way to do that is with a solid surface, matching foundation or an adjustable base." Some platform beds and slat systems are acceptable, but Michelle strongly recommends checking that the number of slats fits in with the guidelines for your particular mattress type and size. Also, queen- and king-sized beds almost always need a center support to further strengthen the slat structure.

Michelle's best advice is simply to plan ahead. There are many options for how to structure your bed in your home, including an adjustable base, box spring with metal frame, platform bed with slats, metal platform frame, Murphy bed, or traditional bedding furniture.
