Binge-Watching TV Is Linked to Poorer Sleep and Insomnia

In a recent study, researchers from the University of Michigan found that binge-watching TV was linked to significantly worse sleep. (This is yet another reason to avoid technology before bed.) Although it may be hard to believe, 71% of binge viewing happens by accident. According to a recent study by the American Academy of Pediatrics, only 44% of parents know how to properly put their babies to sleep. (Hint: on their backs.) Most new parents usually follow the recommended position, but research shows that a majority of them don’t do it every time.

Lack of Sleep May Raise Child’s Type 2 Diabetes Risk

Are your little ones getting enough sleep? New research suggests that sleep-deprived children may be at a higher risk for type 2 diabetes. The study found that children who slept fewer hours each night tended to be heavier and showed signs of heightened insulin resistance — a factor that implies poor sleep habits could increase the odds of diabetes.

A New Tool Can Track Your Sleep Without Ever Touching You

Diagnosing a chronic sleep disorders has never been easier. In the past, troubled sleepers would have to undergo tests to track breathing, heart rate and brain activity, but a newly developed technique uses machine learning and radio signals to track your sleep through frequency levels. Compared to other systems, the device identifies sleep stages with 80% accuracy, which is 16% more than the previous methods.
