4 Things to do With Your Extra Hour of Sleep

It's that time again! When daylight saving rolls around, sleepers everywhere are faced with the biannual ritual of changing clocks. Around the autumn season, it's customary to fall back and add an extra hour of time to our days. With this change, we're faced with a challenge: What's the best way to spend the extra free time?

Don't fret! Here are a few ways to spend your extra hour:

How to Spend Your Extra Hour

  1. Get Smart? Knowledge is power, so use your additional time to pick up a book! There are health benefits to making space in your schedule for reading. Getting your head in a book can help boost creativity and relieve stress. If you're not fond of novels, you can use your time to stay informed on current events. Pick up a newspaper or tune into your local news channel to stay up to speed on world happenings.
  2. Spruce Up Your Space: Clean space = happy place. Now that daylight saving is ending, use your free time to maintain and spruce up every room in your home. Freeing your environment of dust, dirt and grime can reduce stress and help you breathe a little easier. Our advice? Start with your bedroom! Cleaning your bed is easy and can give a much-needed refresh of your sleep space, especially if you plan to spend your extra hour in bed.
  3. Cheers to your Health!: With a busy schedule, it can be hard to find time to focus on wellness. Self-care is important, so we encourage you to devote time to your health and well-being. Apps like Headspace and MyFitnessPal can help you make the most of your mornings. Whether you're a night owl or an early bird, the added time is perfect for kicking off a workout regimen or take a moment to center yourself. Or, if you're a fan of food, you can save money and even more time by meal-prepping and making food for the week in advance. How's that for adding fitness time into your schedule?
  4. Grab Daylight Sleep Savings: The best way to use that extra hour? Rest. With Daylight Saving time ending, we recommend falling back…to sleep. Of course, if you've been struggling to snooze, we have a sleep solution for you. With thousands of Mattress Firm stores nationwide, you're just minutes away from a good night's sleep.

Does the extra hour add stress to your day? In the U.S.; Hawaii and Arizona are the only states that don't observe daylight saving time. So, if you're not a fan of springing forward and falling back, there's still time to move!
