10 Morning Routine Life Hacks

I’ve returned for week number three of my four-week partnership series with Mattress Firm! This week, we’re continuing our conversation about sleep by shedding some light on ten things you (yes, you) can do to improve your morning routine and start your day feeling bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

10 Morning Routine Life Hacks might just be a game-changer. Trust me, I consider myself to be the opposite of a morning person and I was shocked by how easy it was to make the adjustments.

You'll have to watch the video to see all of the hacks, but I thought I'd share my most surprising discovery right here on The Daily Doze. Did you know that finding the ideal alarm tone is one of the most important ways to ensure you'll progress through a smooth, gradual wake cycle?

It’s true — here’s how to find the one that works for you!

Avoid Pop Songs

Pop music is generally energizing and uplifting from the start, but your mind processes sound differently in the morning. Your alarm tone should carry you through multiple stages of the wake cycle, transitioning you through increasingly more alert stages.

Choose a Gentle Song

Songs that begin gently — even if only for a few seconds — and progress gradually, will help you wake up feeling your best. The ideal alarm tone eases listeners in, builds up to the beat and lets those catchy lyrics flow.

Choose the Right Beat


Songs that emphasize beats two and four of each measure and have a BPM of approximately 100-130, are more likely to get you moving. I know, I know — what songs would those be?! Coldplay's "Viva la Vida" is an excellent example — the song begins with an extended string intro and slowly works its way into a highly rhythmic, super catchy verse. Other examples include Avicii's "Wake Me Up," Sam Smith's "Money on My Mind," and my personal favorite, Imagine Dragons' "On Top of the World."
