What to Expect from Your New Mattress
So, you've recently purchased a new bed and the Mattress Firm delivery truck is pulling out of the neighborhood. Now what? What should you expect as you sleep on your new bed for the first time? Read on to learn a few of our tips for what to expect after buying a new mattress.
Give Your New Mattress Some Time
Like any relationship, your relationship with your new mattress might take some time to work out. We suggest that you sleep on your new bed for at least 1 month before you consider using Mattress Firm's return policy, because it can take up to 8 weeks for our bodies to adjust to the new and improved support of a different mattress. Remember, the old mattress that you were sleeping on had been breaking down over the course of many years. Snuggle in and take your time.
It Might Fit Differently
Modern mattresses are built to be thicker than they were in the past, so you may notice that your new bed is a little higher off the ground or that your old sheets don't fit as well. Many frames, headboards and footboards allow you to adjust the bed height easily, and, if necessary, you can buy deep-pocket sheets to fit your new mattress.
Make an Impression
New padding layers in the mattress begin to form to your body almost immediately. You can expect body impressions in the surface of your new bed to form fairly soon. This is normal and does not reflect a defective mattress. Body impressions can be reduced, but not eliminated, by following a monthly mattress rotation schedule.
Support Your Sleep
A good night's sleep starts with a strong foundation. If you did not purchase a base for your mattress, it could sag and may invalidate your Mattress Firm warranty. For example, king mattress sets and queen mattress sets require a bed frame with middle support.
New Mattress Scent
It sounds strange, but you might have noticed a slight smell coming from your new mattress. This is very common! Mattress Firm mattresses are immediately sealed after production, which can trap some of the scents from manufacturing, only to be released when the bag is opened in your home. Although some people find the new mattress scent unpleasant, these odors are not harmful and should dissipate within a few days.
Tying up Loose Threads
All U.S. manufactured mattresses are hand-assembled, so each one is unique. Each new mattress can have slight differences, including contoured seams, skipped threads, fabric scuffs, etc. These manufacturing characteristics are strictly cosmetic and do not affect the manufacturer's warranty, durability, physical performance, or comfort of your new mattress.
