One of Mattress Firm’s core values is “Give Back,” and this year, during National Volunteer Week, employees took it to heart with record-breaking participation.

National Volunteer Week aims to honor the impactful contributions of volunteers, empowering and inspiring people to make a difference in their local communities. Volunteers remain a crucial resource to many organizations throughout the country, and that week is a great opportunity for people to make time to make a difference.

“Giving back to our communities is one of Mattress Firm’s values and one of the many reasons we offer everyone 16 hours of volunteer time off annually. Thank you for putting that time to great use and making an impact in communities across the country. We couldn’t have done this without our 250 incredible give back champions across the company who sourced volunteer opportunities, contacted nonprofits and got their teams to participate,” President and CEO John Eck said in a video address to employees recapping the week.

Mattress Firm employees are proud to serve the communities where we live and work. From building bunk beds to providing meals to cleaning up trash in public spaces, nearly 1,200 employees across the country showed up to lend a hand in their communities. That’s a 152% increase from 2022. Over the course of the week, Mattress Firm team members served 155 different organizations in 515 cities. Compared to National Volunteer Week 2022, Mattress Firm employees nearly tripled their impact in 2023, logging 5,800 hours of volunteer time.

Based on the Independent Sector’s estimated value of a volunteer hour, Mattress Firm had an economic impact of more than $182,000! This rate is based on the cost to the organization of hiring paid workers to provide these services. While National Volunteer Week 2023 is over, Mattress Firm supports the causes and organizations that are important all year long through Matching Donations, Community Engagement and Volunteer Programs.

The excitement to meet Santa builds throughout the weeks leading up to Christmas, as we give him and the elves enough time to read all of our lists and prepare to deliver gifts from the North Pole. Sometimes, we even cooperated for a photo on his lap, and that photo becomes a cherished family memento for years to come.
