Mattress Firm Foster Kids: Looking Back on 2016

As we rang in the New Year, we celebrated the end of the inaugural year of the Mattress Firm Foster Kids program.

With the generosity of our communities, we were able to donate over 420,000 items through our six annual drives to local foster children in 2016. That's nearly 3,500 warm pajamas to comfort a youth at bedtime, 176,000 new properly fitting clothes and shoes, 159,000 school supplies to help youth succeed in school and over 82,000 toys to show someone cares during the holidays.

In addition, nearly $80,000 was raised to allow foster youth to participate in extra-curricular activities through our Dollar Drive.

We couldn't be more excited for our communities to join forces with us, especially as the program grows. Donors supported us by stopping by our Mattress Firm locations with their donations, hosting their own drive, making online donations and volunteered their time.

Our employees also got behind Mattress Firm Foster Kids in a big way! Many teams volunteered and worked with our local non-profit partners to help complete much needed projects, hosted their own fundraisers, organized and distributed donations and participated in our Give Big day at our annual Leadership conference benefiting foster youth.

Last year, we welcomed a new champion to the Mattress Firm Foster Kids team -- Simone Biles, world champion gymnast and former foster child. We were so excited that Simone chose to help us tell the story of the work we're doing to support foster children. Even better, Simone is a resident of Houston, Mattress Firm's hometown.

Our support for the 400,000 children in foster care in the US doesn't stop at our collection drives. We're proud to lend a voice and helped spread awareness to the plights of foster youth and how to make a difference. We truly believe not just everyone can be a foster parent, but anyone can help a foster child.

2017 is off to a great start as we'll be collecting new pajamas for children of all ages through February 12th. During normal store hours, all Mattress Firm locations will accept new pajamas and monetary contributions to give foster kids the comfort of a warm night's sleep. At the end of the drive, all donation will be donated to a local nonprofit in your area.

We're looking forward to another great year — and we couldn't do it without your support. Thank you!
