Mattress Firm Employees Ring in the Holiday Season with Local Donation in Washington, D.C.
Thanksgiving morning is often a time for spending time with family, watching parades, and gearing up for the big meal ahead. But, for Nathan Witherell, a Mattress Firm District Manager in Washington, D.C., this Thanksgiving kicked off with an act of service and generosity — a stark reminder of the importance of giving back during the hectic holiday season.
With help from fellow district managers Eric Falletta and Ross Wheeler, Witherall awoke bright and early on Thanksgiving morning to deliver a mattress to a local family in need, as part of an effort spearheaded by the Fairfax County Police Department.
The Fairfax County Police Department learned that a local woman, who was recently diagnosed with cancer, was sleeping without a mattress on the floor of her apartment —with her two children. Hoping to bring some joy to their lives this holiday season, they cooked up a plan to surprise the family with a complete Thanksgiving dinner. To help the family rest a little easier, they reached out to Witherall and the local Mattress Firm team to see if they might be able to provide a cozy place for the family to rest.
Witherall, who has been with Mattress Firm for nearly seven years, jumped at the opportunity to help and took the lead in coordinating the donation. Together with the Fairfax County Police on Thanksgiving morning, he, Falletta and Wheeler surprised the family in their home, where they delivered a turkey with all of the trimmings and then set up the new mattresses. Mattress Firm was thrilled to help the deserving family, and the family was grateful for the donation of a good night's sleep during a stressful time. The entire event, including their emotional reaction, was covered by a local news station.
In this season of giving, we are thankful for the opportunity to give back to our local communities and bring a little holiday cheer to those in need. But more importantly, Mattress Firm is thankful to have people like Nathan, Eric, and Ross on our team. These are people who saw a need in their community and were willing to give up their own time to make someone else's holiday season just a little bit brighter.
And that's something to celebrate!
